THE HOMESTEAD
Some time in the 1930s, a family went north to carve a home out of Wisconsin's northwoods. And they did, so much so, the lake where they settled bears their name. What is now Sugar Maple was originally a log cabin. But over the years, Howard “Bucky” Hansen grew it into something far more comfortable—and extraordinary. And now, it's a retreat we invite all those who appreciate the peace, calm and quiet of the northwoods to enjoy.
WELCOME TO HANSEN LAKE
Located on a private, no-wake 22-acre lake, Sugar Maple is best defined not by what it has, but what it doesn't. No motorboats. No party pontoons. And no wakeboat sound systems pumping out '80s hair metal. What it is is a silent sport lover’s paradise. And since your stay at Sugar Maple includes exclusive access to two adult-sized paddle boards, a canoe, and fantastic panfish and bass fishing right from the dock all located just minutes from the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, it's perfect for anyone who wants to unplug, wind down, and be active at the same time.
YOUR GO-GO GETAWAY AWAITS
Protected by a forest of red pine and hardwoods, Sugar Maple is a refuge for those wanting a chance to relax, reset, and completely unplug. And while we don't have a TV (sorry, kids), we do have plenty of board games and outdoor- and lake-oriented activities available, and quality Internet access courtesy of Starlink. And don't forget—we are literally at the gateway to everything the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest has to offer, and a designated ATV/UTV/Snowmobile route is right at the intersection of Hansen and Singer Roads just west of The Homestead.
ONE WORD: COMFY
Yes, the home is based on a 1930s log cabin, but it's grown up a lot since then. With two full bathrooms, a main bedroom with plenty of room for a Pack 'n Play or port-a-crib, two upstairs bedrooms, and a total of four queen beds and two twins, Sugar Maple has more than enough room for your entire family, friends trip, or intimate group getaway.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN
Many games require a bit of room—and we've got it. Just next to the outdoor firepit area is a patch of grass just waiting for a game of touch football, catch, hide & seek, or a family tournament of croquet or cornhole. There's so many fun possibilities here—by land or sea. And let's not even get started about the fishing.
ABOUT US
Hello there. I'm David. She's Elizabeth. And we are the owners of Sugar Maple at Hansen Lake. We are so excited to share our family's northwoods retreat with yours, and hope you'll love it just as much as we do. One warning, though: by my current tally, somewhere north of 50 bird species, many of them songbirds, also call Sugar Maple home. So you better love hearing the wind in the pines and a full 360º soundscape of birdsong, ‘cause that's exactly what you get here. —David
